Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach K-8 physical education at a charter school in a high need neighborhood on the West side of Chicago. Our school doesn't have the resources to provide equipment that is necessary for my students to learn fundamental skills in physical education class.

My students come from a community with limited opportunities for sports related experiences. The urban landscape limits their opportunity for physical activities that are the norm in more affluent and safer areas. Students at our school do not play on playgrounds during recess or have much play equipment.

I would like to acquire a badminton class set to enrich their experience in gym class. During class I would like to teach my students an unfamiliar sport like badminton to spark interest. I would also like a set of 6 soccer balls for gym use and for use during recess.

I have set goals to teach my students various themes through physical education throughout the year. These themes include goal setting, self determination, teamwork, hard work, and routines. I work as hard as I can each day to meet these personal goals, but it is becoming difficult to reach the goals that I have for myself and my students with out the necessary resources. Please help us achieve our goals!
