My classroom is a self contained Multi-Handicap classroom in Southern Indiana. I have 6 students that have cognitive delays as well physical delays and conditions. I teach students with a Physical age of 12 to 16 years of age in grades 6, 7, and 8th 1st and 2nd year. These student has a mental age of 2 to 5 years of age. The population of my classroom is 60% lower income students. We have just finished our 4th year of going without support for classroom supplies. We have also realized no increase in spending from year to year. The resources that are needed to complete the task that I have proposed are books, art supplies and enough resources that will support a 100 day unit on the topic of places and people around the world. I feel that this will help my students who are able to comprehend that other people in the world are just the same as them. I feel that in the environment of today, that it is important for our students at any level to know and understand that each person in the world has their part to do. I think that by doing this unit on people of the world and their lands that I can help the students to better understand the world and each countries cultures and beliefs. I feel that through you contributions to this cause you will helping to make this world as better place for those of us who are here now and for generations to come.
