My Students

My students are full of heart and hope. They are eager to share their voices with the world and make a difference through their actions.

Most of my students are ethnically diverse, inner-city students in Los Angeles.

70% of them are bussed to my school and travel long and far to get a quality education. I want to do the best I can and inspire them to share their unique talents with the world and believe that they can contribute to the world around them. Through our project, students will truly Teach for the Planet and become agents of change in their schools, classrooms and communities.

My Project

I am requesting 3 iPads and speakers to use in our classroom "Here I Stand" project, where students are taking a stand for causes they believe in. These topics include the environment, equality and education. Students will develop research questions, conduct research, volunteer at local community organizations, interview community members, create videos and present their research and ideas a film festival. We are teaming up with a classroom in India to do a cross-cultural, international film festival on their research. The iPads will be used to shoot video and conduct research, and the speakers will be used in the film festival. Some questions students have already developed include: How do beach cleanup organizations impact the environment in Los Angeles? What is the relationship between the future of wildlife and the future of humans? Through taking action and voicing their thoughts, students will strengthen their belief that they can make a difference in the world.

This type of real world learning situates students at the center or change and trains them in building real world college and career skills. Student engagement is key to creating successful learning environments and we appreciate your support in helping us to engage and empower our youth.
