"Do you remember the first book that really grabbed your attention and made you want to read? I do! That is the experience that I want to give to my wonderfully energetic group of Kindergarteners. I teach in a culturally eclectic school that is in a high need community and where a large population of our students are non-native English speakers.

Many of my students, especially the boys in my class, have a fixation on video games and action packed television and movies. The access to these fast paced images has stifled the students' desires and interests in books. Without the interest, there is no motivation to practice the skills that they have learned. Without the practice, they will have a much harder time achieving success in the upper grades.

What we need in my classroom are more books that are of higher interest to my students. There are so many new book topics and formats available that will really hook children into reading. With a variety of books at the early reading levels, non-fiction books and graphic novels, the students can have the chance to learn and grow as readers.

With your help, you will make it possible for my students to become lifelong readers and lifelong learners. Your generosity will open up many windows in the future for these children.

My classroom library needs 65+ new paperback titles, including selections from the "I Can Read!" Book Series.

"I remember the huge book carousel we had in my second grade classroom, I spent all of my recesses reading those books. I want every child to have as much access to books as I did, they were so important to me."
