Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach kindergarten and first grade English as a Second Language in a suburb of New York. We are a public school in high need.

My idea is a beautification project for our school. Students will learn about gardening, planting, growing, and maintaining a garden. They will also learn about the life cycles of plants. Students will be able to chart growth. This will also show them that they should be proud of their environment and teach them how to maintain it.

My solution is to have a "magic garden" within the school grounds. Students will use gardening tools to plant seeds. We will water them daily and watch their growth.

This idea will not only teach students science, (life cycles, and growth charts), it will also teach them about the environment, which ties in nicely with Earth Day. Students will be proud of their efforts and hopefully continue our idea at home and in the community.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
