My students need 4 different sets of early reading science books, student science journals, a set of Life Cycles Chart/posters, themed tubs and centers for learning about plants, life cycles and insects and individual greenhouses and crystals for each student to use while growing crystals and seeds.

Hello Wonderful Friend! I am a first grade teacher. We are a small town with only one elementary school. The number of disadvantaged and high-needs students increases with new students enrolling weekly. The students in my class range in age from 5 to 8 years old. I have to say my job is the ABSOLUTE best job in the world! My students LOVE learning about science. However, I honestly do not have much needed supplies and equipment to deliver QUALITY and hands-on science instruction. Since science is something I desperately lack supplies for, I thought this would be a wonderful proposal to write. The materials in this proposal will be used for many years. In first grade, the science curriculum is one that needs lots of different materials and supplies for students to truly grasp the learning that is being presented. In order to truly be able to teach the science curriculum, it is so important for me to have various supplies and materials that address the different learning styles. The learning styles auditory (hear), visual (see) and kinesthetic (feel), are all addressed with the various supplies I have requested. As a National Board Certified Teacher, I know the supplies that my school has do not meet the needs of my students learning styles and therefore are not going to get the job done. I have chosen various supplies that will stimulate my students interests while enabling them to really understand and learn! The resources I have asked for in this proposal include 4 sets of science books, including fiction and non-fiction. The science books will address various reading levels of my students and allow them to build background knowledge, read for meaning and help my students better understand the learning that is being presented. Since the book levels are different, they will meet the needs of my below grade level, on grade level and above grade level readers. The colorful pictures in the books will also help students to enjoy reading while learning. The science tubs will give my students hands-on resources to touch and manipulate while learning about different science themes I will teach this year. For example, I will have resources to use when teaching about life cycles, push and pull, movement, insects, plants, etc. The posters and charts will give my visual learners great pictures to view and something to view as they recreate the life cycle of different animals and insects. The individual greenhouses will provide each student an opportunity to truly WATCH their OWN seeds or crystals grow-that will be so powerful for my first graders! If this proposal is funded, I will be able to truly teach science to my students. I will also be able to address the different learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) as well as use their interests to teach. They will just LOVE it! I cannot wait to see their eyes when they would get to help open the boxes of the materials that I so desperately need and have requested! Man, oh man - you have no idea how excited first graders can get! I hope you will consider funding my proposal. I want to help my students be as successful as they can be. With your help, I will be able to do just that!
