Can We Be 3d?

My students need two 3D printers, to give them concrete way to integrate Math and Science into their Art and Technology class! They create exquisite designs it would be amazing to see them in 3D!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"...by enabling a machine to produce objects of any shape, on the spot and as needed, 3-D printing really is ushering in a new era." Richard A. Aveni, Harvard Business Review, March 2013 My students enroll at our school to learn about technology. We haven't even SEEN a 3D printer.

My students wake up between 4:30 or 5:30 in the morning to catch a bus at their local school.

Then they take a trek across the city to our Digital Media Magnet school. They attend 6 classes and possibly go to after school tutoring or a sport, and then they take the bus ride home. We are a specialized program within a big school. The area around us is affluent, but my students are not. They sign up to learn about the technology that they don't have at home and/ or to get out of the influences of their own neighborhood. But our program lacks equipment and resources to make their experience unique. Our home school sees us as a stepchild and our program is underfunded by our local district. The kids are very sweet and willing to accept their lack of resources. But I am new to the school this year and I know what other schools, like the one I came from have, and this program needs help.

My Project

Our district has been implementing the national common core standards. Our task is to create technological connections between Science, technology, english and mathematics (STEM) classes. Two 3d printers will allow the work that is done in Math and science class to be brought to fruition in Technology classes!

This project will allow our students to have current technology.

I would hope that this project might level the playing field for my students. Perhaps it will make the bus rides worthwhile.
