Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

It's TIME for us to be better math students! My class is a wonderful group of fourth graders with a ton of diverse needs. Our class "quilt" has squares of low socio-economics, divided families, alcohol abuse, ADHD, and giftedness. This is my second year teaching and I have set goals to make it much better than the last by reaching more students and giving them the chance to learn to their potential. Sadly, last year my students failed at reading clocks and finding elapsed time. I do not want that to happen again. It is so difficult to teach time from a book or by "lecturing," and who wants to learn by those methods anyway? I want my children to touch math and move with it! Research shows that the more they "do" with the content, the more they retain. By having actual clocks to manipulate, they can take a very abstract idea and make it come alive! Your help will benefit my students in so many ways! For example, these future citizens will be more likely to be on time for business meetings, job interview, college classes, and other things that make them successful! Of course, it would be very hard to be punctual when you struggle to read a clock! So now is your TIME to make a difference!!!
