I teach 4th grade at a school with kids on a variety of educational levels. The kids that are above grade level don't always get challenged, due to the large number of kids that struggle!Approximately 30 students in our 4th grade population read above grade level and truly show a love for reading, but are not challenged on a regular basis. I want to challenge them to ensure they continue to "LOVE" reading. I will need 30 "Number the Stars" books so I can create this challenge by creating an afterschool Book Club. This particular novel will allow me to expand their reading skills into a history lesson without them even realizing it! I have always used my single copy of the book to read aloud to my classroom, but this year I would like to get multiple copies to create my reading challenge!Have you ever read a book and not wanted to put it down? Overtime I have read "Number the Stars" to a room full of kids and this is the comment I get: "Please, Don't stop!" Yes, they even want to miss recess some days to keep on reading! Who can say no to that?
