My school is located in the mountains of North Carolina. It is a rural public school and I teach regular education for fourth graders. I have just returned to teaching after an extended absence. When leaving my last position to pastor a church in Florida, I left all of my math materials with the new teacher. After five years out of teaching, I realized that the passion for teaching that I have was still alive and well. I had to get back into the classroom! The school I now teach in has little extra money to buy math materials. I love teaching the math curriculum of NC. Math is so much more than pushing a pencil on a paper. It is vital to give students the opportunity to see math and model it with manipulatives. Even in higher elementary grades, students must be able to see and touch examples of fractions, division and geometry to solidify higher level concepts. Only with a good selection of manipulatives can this be accomplished. I desire for my students to have opportunity to develop true understanding of math concepts. An assortment of quality manipulatives will assure this will happen! Your donations are an investment in our children!
