My project need is to replace the old blackboards with white boards so that my students can clearly see math problems solved from start to finish when I am explaining the lesson and when they are showing how they solved their homework problems to the rest of the class.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. P.'s classroom raised $780
This project is fully funded
I teach math and western hemisphere in 6th grade in a middle school that is located on the border of a large city.
Many of my students need glasses that their families cannot afford. The parents are always asking if I can put their children in the front, but I only have six seats in the front of a classroom with 28 students. My blackboards are so old that it is difficult for them to see the information on the board. If I use an overhead to show the steps in solving a math problem I have to turn the roller so that they never see the beginning of the problem and the solution at the same time. That's why I like to work on a big board.
A white board is perfect because the background is light and with bright markers, they can easily see the problem develop step by step. When I am teaching the metric system I draw the meter family on the board. We call the dad "Kilo Dad", mom is "Mama Meter". We have "Sister Centi", and "Baby Milli"!!! The children laugh because I'm not an artist but I sure get their attention. I often show different ways to solve the same problem and then they see the same answer come up. Math is so visual for the students. The white board would serve a double purpose because I can also project maps and charts on them.
You can reach 140 students on a daily basis. The children and I would be so thrilled to have this new board in the classroom. We are working hard to increase or scores and a board that can make it easier for them to see would help us to achieve our goals. Thank you!
