Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are special education resource students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. I love my students' love for play and learning! I want to create opportunities where students can combine these interests while applying skills in real life scenarios. The Peaceable Kingdom Cooperative Board Game Set will allow students to play structured games together that don't overly focus on "winning" and instead focus on cooperation. This is a great first step in working towards being able to understand and tolerate "winning and losing" games. For my older students that can tolerate winning and losing, the Go Fish and Slap Jack games allow them to practice working together and emotion regulation. The "What Happens Next" game will allow students to practice story sequencing and work towards better understanding of finding the main idea, supporting details, etc. The STEM choices, such as the magnetic building tiles and Brainometry build blocks, will allow students to practice fine motor skills, focus, creative play, and playing independently or with other children. The puzzle choices of self-correcting number puzzles, CVC puzzles, US map puzzle, wooden face changing puzzle, the dog puzzle, the construction puzzle, and donut puzzle will allow students to practice problem-solving, endurance, and give them something on their level that they can use independently. The Pokemon, Minecraft, and affirmations coloring books will allow more fine motor practice as well as reading and self-affirmation practice. Coloring can also be a way to practice calming down when they are emotionally dysregulated

These are fun but educational options that do not involve a screen.

The items listed here encourage the use of fine motor skills and working well with others, and can boost self-esteem through words and task completion.
