My Project

These resources will help create a classroom in which both English and Spanish are the language of learning. I teach at a school with a mix of native English speakers and multilingual learners from primarily Spanish-speaking backgrounds. Far too often, English gets uplifted as the "more academic" language, creating inequality amongst students. This shouldn't be the case.

All students, regardless of their home language, should feel empowered to use their language skills to unlock learning.

These resources will support native Spanish speakers in my classroom in many ways. The headphones with microphones will enable students to engage with digital language-learning projects and platforms and allow them to hear their own voice. The labels will help all students (not just English-learners) develop their vocabulary in both English and Spanish. The bilingual books will help students develop biliteracy and recognize that the magic of reading is not limited to English.
