Help Turn “I Don’t Like Reading” Into “One More Chapter!”

Help me give my students an inviting classroom library filled with engaging books and accessible displays that spark curiosity, celebrate diverse stories, connect to learning, and inspire a lifelong love of reading!

My Project

My students are curious, energetic fifth graders who bring a wide range of interests, personalities, and reading abilities into our classroom each day. What makes them special is that they are eager to learn when they can connect with what they are reading. I want every student, whether they already love books or are still searching for the book that makes reading click, to see themselves as a reader and have access to stories and topics that genuinely interest them.

The books requested for our classroom library will provide students with a wider variety of engaging, age-appropriate choices at different reading levels.

Having books readily available in our classroom means students can spend more time reading, exploring new genres, discovering favorite authors, and building important skills such as vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and critical thinking. Most importantly, having choices allows students to take ownership of their reading and experience the excitement of finding a book they truly don't want to put down.

My goal for this project is to create a classroom library that helps transform reading from something students have to do into something they want to do. By putting high-interest books directly into their hands, I hope to build stronger, more confident readers while developing a love of reading that extends far beyond fifth grade. With the support of donors, our classroom shelves can become a place where every student can find their next great book and maybe even discover a lifelong love of reading.
