This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have always believed that my purpose and passion in life is to help others. Teaching art provides me with the opportunity to do that every day. Art has also been an important part of my own life. It has always given me a way to express myself, find peace, and have a creative outlet when I needed it during hardships. Because of that, I know how meaningful art can be, and I want my students to have that same opportunity. This year marks a very special new chapter for me. After teaching high school art for the past three years, I recently took a leap of faith, moved to a new state, and will be teaching my first year of elementary art. For the first time in my teaching career, I have an art classroom of my own! With nearly 700 children coming through my doors to learn, create, explore, and hopefully discover a love for art.

My goal is for my classroom to be more than just a place where students make art.

I want it to be an organized art classroom where every student will be able to identify where the supplies are and advocate for themselves. Most importantly, I want it to be a warm, welcoming, and calming space where every child feels comfortable being themselves, trying new things, making mistakes, and expressing themselves creatively. The resources in this project will provide my artists with the materials and tools they need to explore different art techniques, have meaningful hands-on experiences, and create a calming space for them.
