Reluctant Readers to Lifelong Readers

Help me give my students a chance to see that reading is more than schoolwork, it is a passport to possibility. In our underserved school, I want to ignite curiosity, build confidence, and help students maximize their potential.

My Project

Serving more than five years at my school, I've come to see that my students are bright, funny, curious, and full of potential, but many come from an underserved community where resources and opportunities can be limited. Some enter my classroom already believing that reading is boring or that school has little connection to their future. I want to change that. My goal is to create a classroom where students feel comfortable, excited, and ready to learn. Bean bags will help create an inviting reading corner where students can discover books they actually enjoy. Headphones will support independent digital learning, while notebooks, pencils, colored pens, sticky notes, poster boards, and other supplies will allow students to annotate, write, create, collaborate, and participate in hands-on learning stations. I want my students to discover that reading isn't just something we do for a grade. Reading can take them places they have never been, introduce them to possibilities they have never imagined, and open doors they may not yet know exist.
