Building a Welcoming Reading Lab Where Young Readers Can Grow

Help me give my students a comfortable, organized, and inviting reading lab where students can strengthen their literacy skills through small-group instruction, independent reading, and hands-on learning.

My Project

The child-sized tables and chairs will create two small-group learning stations where students can participate in phonics lessons, word work, partner reading, writing activities, and teacher-led reading instruction. The four bookshelves will provide accessible storage for decodable texts, leveled books, literacy games, intervention materials, and student resources. Keeping these materials organized and within students’ reach will make transitions smoother and allow us to spend more time learning.

The cushioned storage bench will provide additional seating while helping organize supplies and students’ belongings.

The classroom rug will define a comfortable area for read-alouds, and collaborative learning.

Together, these materials will create a reading lab where students feel safe, supported, and motivated to take risks as readers. This space will allow me to provide students opportunities to practice, collaborate, and experience success.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
