Space to Lead: Creating a Student Government Collaboration Hub

My Project

Student government is at its best when students are given the space.

I want to transform a section of our classroom into a comfortable, student-centered collaboration area designed specifically for our Student Government Association.

Rather than always working from traditional desks, students will have a welcoming space where they can sit together, brainstorm ideas, plan school events, solve problems, and have meaningful conversations as a team.

This space is especially important because I want my SGA students to develop ownership of their organization. There are times when students need to meet, work, and make decisions even when I am helping another group, teaching, or not immediately available.

The comfortable seating and collaborative setup will also help create the kind of environment I want for student leadership: welcoming, creative, and community-centered. These students are learning how to communicate, delegate responsibilities, compromise, organize projects, and turn their ideas into real experiences for their school community.

Students will use this area for brainstorming sessions, committee meetings, event planning, project work, peer discussions, and informal leadership meetings. I want it to become the place students naturally say, “Let's meet in the SGA space.”

The stools and magnetic cushions will be positioned around the locker countertops for a workspace with their laptops or drawing out large posters. It creates a learning bar area that faces a collaboration marker board and Promethean. The rug centralizes the zone, creates a soft spot, and brings the space together. It is gray like our school colors. The couch, chairs, and table also perfectly match our school colors and media center down the hall. It creates cohesion and longevity as this is good quality. The sweeper will keep the area clean. The neon wolves will create a teen oriented vibes while showcasing our mascot.
