Bringing Real-World Literacy to Life

Help me give my students engaging, current resources that build literacy, strengthen background knowledge, and spark curiosity through real-world reading in science, social studies, and topics that connect learning to the world around them!

My Project

My students are curious, capable learners who thrive when they can connect classroom learning to the world around them. As an AIG teacher, I can use these print and digital resources to provide authentic reading experiences, enrichment, and project-based learning opportunities. Students will explore science, technology, current events, history, and real-world issues while strengthening vocabulary, comprehension, research, critical thinking, and communication skills.

My goal is to help students see reading as a tool for discovery, inquiry, and understanding the world around them.

As a purpose-built community school, our school is committed to cradle-to-career education and economic vitality as key pillars of our wraparound model. These resources will help bring those pillars into the classroom by connecting literacy to real-world learning and students' futures. Articles can serve as launching points for research projects, collaborative challenges, and student-led investigations, while financial topics provide opportunities to develop financial literacy and explore how economic decisions affect individuals and communities. Students can read, question, research, create, and share their learning in meaningful ways.

With your support, I hope to create a learning environment where literacy goes beyond completing an assignment. These resources will help my students become stronger readers, thoughtful researchers, and confident problem-solvers while discovering how the skills they develop today can contribute to their future success and the economic vitality of their community.
