My Project

This year opens the door for new adventures through reading as I move up from teaching reading to the youngest learners to teaching reading to 5th grade students. Unfortunately, this means my silly books about unicorns in tutus, hippos with hiccups, or Fluffy McWhiskers might not reach my 5th graders the way they do the little ones. I am in need of books that are engaging and will allow my 5th graders to grow as readers, writers, and thinkers.

Sometimes all it takes is one unforgettable story to turn a reluctant readers into a lifelong reader.

A well stocked classroom library gives students the opportunity to explore new genres, discover characters they relate to, and develop the confidence to choose books they genuinely enjoy. Independent reading helps strengthen vocabulary, comprehension, critical thinking, and writing skills. Mostly, having a choice of books gives students the chance to see reading as something they want to do rather than something they have to do.
