My Project

Walk into our art studio and you'll find some of the most resilient, big-hearted kids you could ever meet. Our small Title I school welcomes children from all walks of life — English Language Learners finding their voice, students with exceptionalities discovering their strengths, AIG learners hungry for a challenge, and military kids who've said goodbye to one school and hello to another more times than most adults ever will. Through all of that change, they show up every single day ready to create. In my classroom, a blank piece of paper doesn't care what language you speak or how many schools you've attended — it just waits for an idea.

A set of drawing supplies can be the difference between a student who shrinks back and one who lights up.

Right now, my students share worn-down pencils and split single sheets of paper between two or three kids at a time. With supplies of their own, my ELL students can express ideas words haven't caught up to yet, my EC students can build the fine motor skills they're working so hard to strengthen, and my AIG students finally have room to dream bigger.

Art is almost always the first thing cut when budgets get tight, but for my students, it's often the one class where they feel completely free to be themselves. Your generosity won't just fill a supply closet — it will hand a nervous new student their very first sketchbook, give a child who's still learning English a way to be understood, and remind every single one of my students that their ideas matter.
