A Year of Art, All in One Place

Help me give my students in fifth graders their own art portfolios: a place to organize, protect, and take pride in a year's worth of creative growth.

My Project

My fifth graders are some of the most thoughtful, hardworking kids I've ever had the privilege to teach. Our small Title I school serves a wonderfully diverse population, including a large number of students with exceptionalities, English language learners, and children of military families who move in and out of our community throughout the year. As my oldest students prepare to leave elementary school behind, they've spent years building a body of work — and they deserve a way to keep it safe, organized, and something they can be proud of.

A portfolio of their own can be the difference between artwork that gets crumpled and lost and a collection a student can be truly proud of.

Right now, my fifth graders' best work often ends up bent, torn, or stuffed loosely in a backpack, with no way to protect or showcase what they've created. With real portfolios, my ELL students can see tangible proof of how far they've come, my EC students can take pride in a finished body of work, and my AIG students can look back on a true record of their creative growth.

Art is almost always the first thing cut when budgets get tight, yet for my oldest students, it's one of the last chances I have to help them leave elementary school with something to be proud of. Your generosity won't just fill a supply closet — it will give a nervous student a reason to feel accomplished, help a child who's still learning English see their own progress in pictures, and remind every one of my fifth graders that their work is worth protecting. Thank you for believing that all kids deserve to walk away with something to be proud of.
