Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every school year, I get the joy of starting fresh with a new group of students who are full of curiosity, questions, and potential. As I prepare to welcome more than 120 sixth-grade mathematicians, I want to create a classroom that is organized, welcoming, and designed for meaningful learning from day one.

In math, students understand concepts best when they can see them and work with them.

Magnetic whiteboard overlays will transform our existing whiteboards into flexible learning spaces where we can display vocabulary, build anchor charts, model examples, and capture student thinking in real time. Being able to quickly move and update materials will make lessons more interactive and responsive.

I also want my students to experience math, not just listen to it. Hands-on manipulatives allow students to test ideas, explore different strategies, and make sense of abstract concepts. These experiences build understanding and confidence in ways that worksheets alone cannot.

With more than 120 students rotating through my classroom each day, organization is essential. Classroom binders and storage crates will keep learning materials organized and accessible, while anchor chart paper and laminating supplies will help create durable reference tools students can use throughout the year. Even small resources, like a reliable pencil sharpener and classroom tissues, help minimize interruptions and maximize instructional time.
