Engineering Design with Microbits

Help me give my students an opportunity to learn hands on programming skills. The materials include a set of microbits and a few accessories to help us in our engineering design projects this year.

My Project

I teach at a Montessori school and get to loop with my students, so I am excited to have my returning students continue to build their engineering design skills. Last year we focused on building solutions to problems with maker space materials. We built lighthouse models, casts, and mini functional satellites.

This year I’d like to take my students engineering design skills to the next level with microbits.

I spent the summer learning more about the engineering design process through a program at Duke, and started to play around with incorporating microbits into design projects. With the second set of 10 microbits, I would have enough for a class to learn at the same time. I have discovered there are accessories that can enhance what the microbit can do. By using microbits and the additional parts, such as servo motors, students will learn basic programing and can make their designs function in a more autonomous way.
