My Project

Our school is a low-income, K-5 school. I believe that all students are able to learn. Within our 1st grade, students have a wide variety of abilities. Within this school year, there are 20 students in my first-grade class. Our school is a great learning environment where students prosper. Our academic community is continuously growing and focuses on achieving higher expectations.

In today's society, sadly some students come to us hungry which can result in lack of focus and disruptive behavior.

In my experience, when students are not hungry then they have a tendency to strive for academic greatness. Students are more able to focus on the task at hand opposed to the emptiness in their stomachs.

Students who are fed and are not distracted by hunger may learn better. The students I teach come to school daily with a positive attitude about learning and are eager to interact with their peers. My students want to learn and are exciting to learn new things daily. They are eager to help one another learn as well.

Some of my students come to school hungry and to be honest there is nothing worse than being hungry while you are still trying to focus on the teacher. Students need to have access to snacks and this fuel will help them with this focus. My class eats lunch late in the day, it is important that they receive additional nourishment. The snacks that have been requested such as Welch's fruit snacks, goldfish, and pringles will help my students to maintain the energy they need to continue focusing as well as provide additional support for parents who may have difficulty purchasing such items; while the sour patches and runts will be a fun treat and incentive!
