Taking AP Environmental Science Beyond the Classroom Walls

Help me give my students an iPad, Apple Pencil, and an air pollution investigation lab kit to support hands-on learning in AP Environmental Science. These resources will allow students to collect data, analyze evidence, and engage in investigations.

My Project

My students are curious problem-solvers who want to understand the world around them. They are most engaged when science moves beyond the textbook and they have the opportunity to ask questions, investigate real problems, and discover answers for themselves. I love watching my students shift from simply learning science concepts to thinking and working like scientists.

One of the most challenging units in AP Environmental Science is air quality because many of the most important concepts are invisible.

Students can learn about pollutants, particulate matter, and human impacts, but it can be difficult to truly understand these ideas without collecting and analyzing evidence themselves.

The air quality investigation materials will serve as a starting point for students to explore these concepts, while the iPad and Apple Pencil will allow them to collect, organize, analyze, and communicate environmental data from our own community. Students will investigate local environmental conditions, look for patterns, and use evidence to develop a deeper understanding of how human activities impact the environment around them.

These resources will help my students reach the goal of becoming confident environmental scientists. Instead of just learning about pollution, they will become the experts who investigate it, analyze it, and communicate solutions. This hands-on experience will build critical thinking skills and show students that science is something they can actively do.
