Tools to Help My Students Describe Their World

Help me give my students tools that support expressive language, vocabulary, and confidence in our Title I speech therapy space.

My Project

As a speech‑language pathologist at a Title I school with a large population of multilingual learners, I work with students who are building strong communication skills in more than one language. Many of my students need support with describing objects, ideas, stories, and academic concepts—skills that are essential for success in the classroom and beyond.

To help my students become confident communicators, I am requesting hands‑on describing materials that make expressive language practice visual, engaging, and meaningful.

These resources give students the structure they need to explain what they see, think, and understand.

Multilingual learners especially benefit from visual supports and concrete materials that help bridge the gap between their home language and academic English. Using descriptive tools in speech sessions allows students to practice vocabulary, categorization, sentence structure, and expressive language in a low‑pressure, supportive environment. These materials also align with classroom lessons, making it easier for students to transfer their new skills into reading, writing, and oral discussions.

By adding these describing tools to our speech therapy space, I can create engaging lessons that help students build confidence, participate more fully in class, and express themselves clearly. Your support will directly impact students who are working hard every day to find their voice in a new language and a new learning environment.
