Efficiency in STEM: a Sanitation Station for 7th-Grade Labs

Help me give my students the most valuable 7th-grade STEM instruction time by providing a countertop sanitation station (dishwasher) to efficiently clean reusable lab equipment and cooking tools between classes!

My Project

What I love most about my 7th graders is their boundless curiosity and their desire to learn by doing. Middle schoolers are naturally energetic and inquisitive, and they truly thrive when they can step away from textbooks to experience science and math firsthand through messy, interactive labs and real-world recipe activities. They are incredibly collaborative, enthusiastic about discovering how the world works, and always eager to take ownership of their own learning experiences.

This countertop sanitation (dishwasher) station will directly enhance student learning by reclaiming critical instructional time that is currently lost to tedious cleanup.

Instead of standing in a long line at sinks to hand-wash lab materials my students will be able to spend those final 10-15 minutes of class analyzing their data, discussing their findings, and reflecting on the concepts they just witnessed. It allows them to focus entirely on being young mathematicians and scientists, while also teaching them professional lab hygiene and organizational skills.

My 7th-grade students are at a turning point in their education where science and math transition from abstract textbook concepts to hands-on, real-world experiences. They learn best when they can get their hands dirty—whether they are mixing solutions to observe chemical reactions or using culinary recipes to master ratios, proportions, scale, and fractions. Our classroom is a buzzing hub of curiosity, but keeping up with the mess of daily interactive labs is a major hurdle. This appliance would completely transform our lab days.
