My project needs digital video editing software like Adobe Premiere Elements. This project is to get special education students who are poor academically excel in something hands on.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a High School Special Education teacher in the Bronx. My students are struggling learners who tend to fail academically. I have started a new class and program at my school to offer students a hands on class in which they will enjoy themselves and succeed. This course will introduce students to the joys of digital filmmaking.
They will learn how to plan, shoot and edit digital videos and work cooperatively to produce something they will be proud of. Students will shoot and edit their own original ideas as well as work with various classes and organizations within the school to create their own short films. At the end of the school year students will exhibit their work at the Lehman HS Film Festival (this year will be the first time) for friends, family and faculty.
So many of our students have obstacles at home and at school, and I feel that this program will allow my students to feel good about themselves while doing something fun and educational. As aforementioned this is a first time course being offered in our school and despite my plea that I cannot teach filmmaking without a camera and/or editing software, as of now I do not have supplies for the term. The students registered for the class are excited to do something different and I would hate to disappoint them. I believe this is an incredible opportunity for my students and a great way for the outside community to get involved. Thank you.
