Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I believe that my students deserve a comfortable place to learn. I know that this rug will provide my students with a cozy gathering space for morning meetings, read-alouds, phonics time and centers. During our morning meetings we all sit in a big circle around the carpet and share what we did over the weekend, our answers to daily questions, and where we check in on how our morning is going and how we can make the rest of our day continue to go well or go better. The carpet will also be a great place for students to listen to read-alouds an essential time where students learn what reading should sound like and they get to experience think alouds and modeling of strategies good readers use when reading. Another very important time I use my carpet is during phonics time. I have my students come to the carpet with their own dry erase board and markers and we learn about the different rules and sounds letters make in words. Lastly, the carpet is a great place for my students to gather to play phonics games that I usually set out during center time. This carpet will benefit my students and will allow them a cozy space to learn as a collective and to build a positive and welcoming classroom environment.
