My Project

Learning to read is one of the most important milestones in a child's education, and second grade is a critical year for building strong decoding and fluency skills. My students work hard every day during small-group reading instruction, where they learn to recognize spelling patterns, decode unfamiliar words, and grow into confident readers.

To help make these lessons engaging and meaningful, I am requesting hands-on magnetic phonics kits and whisper phones.

The phonics kits allow students to build, manipulate, and read words using blends, digraphs, vowel teams, and other phonics patterns. Instead of simply writing words on paper, students can physically move sounds and letter combinations, making abstract reading concepts easier to understand.

Whisper phones will give students immediate auditory feedback as they practice reading. By hearing their own voices more clearly, students are able to self-monitor, improve fluency, and build confidence while reading independently.

These materials will be used daily to support our school's structured phonics instruction that follows the science of reading. Students will practice blending, segmenting, decoding, and manipulating sounds through hands-on learning that makes reading both engaging and effective.
