Help me give my students a new and fun reading environment. Students deserve to read in a clean and loving space.

My Project

I teach a group of 60 fifth graders with and without disabilities in a large, urban school district in the Piedmont of NC. Due to the severe budget cuts our district is facing, many basic and supplemental 5th-grade materials cannot be purchased. My students come from a neighborhood that has a high poverty rate. We are a Title I school. One hundred percent of the students at our school receive free lunch.

Each day, we shower and nurture the students with love.

We also boost their confidence and set high expectations for them. Our goal is to make them college and career-ready. For most of them, they will be the first ones in their family to attend college.

The broom/dust pan, disinfecting wipes, and Lysol spray will be used to help keep the classroom organized and clean.

The stackable stools, lamp, testing dividers, LED sign, and mesh pouches will be used to store headphones and provide a nice, calm but colorful ambiance to the reading area. The dividers will help students to stay focused when testing. Students will learn social studies while reading. The curriculum book will give students more of pencil/paper instead of screen time. The hall pass is used when students enter/exit the classroom to make sure all students are accounted for.

The puzzles will be used for indoor recess. The lanyards will be used to put their ID badges in and wear them daily. Each day, students participate in a small group session with the teacher, and the dry erase dots will be used to make learning more interactive. The record book and clipboard will be used to safely store students' grades in one place.

They are excited and eager to learn and help others learn.
