Building Lifelong Readers Through Exciting Third-Grade Novel Studies

Help me give my students two chapter books (The Great Shark Escape and Mayflower Treasure Hunt) as novel studies that will encourage deep reading, meaningful discussions, and a lifelong love of books.

My Project

My third-grade students are eager to become stronger readers, critical thinkers, and confident communicators. This year, I want to provide them with the opportunity to participate in two whole-class novel studies that will encourage deep reading, meaningful discussions, and a lifelong love of books.

Reading a full novel together helps students build essential comprehension skills while strengthening vocabulary, fluency, and critical thinking.

Through collaborative discussions, writing activities, and hands-on learning experiences, students learn to make connections, analyze characters, identify themes, and support their thinking with evidence from the text.

These books are perfect for third graders because they combine adventure, mystery, science, and problem-solving in ways that keep students excited and engaged. A to Z Mysteries: The Mayflower Treasure Hunt encourages students to think like detectives as they follow clues and solve a historical mystery. The Magic School Bus: The Great Shark Escape brings science to life as students explore ocean ecosystems and learn fascinating facts about sharks in an unforgettable, story-driven way.

Many of my students have limited access to books outside of school. Having individual copies of these books ensures every child can actively participate in discussions and follow along with the text.

Your generosity will place engaging, high-interest books directly into the hands of young readers and provide meaningful learning experiences they will remember long after the school year ends. These books will become valuable classroom resources that can inspire many future classes of third graders.
