My Project

My AP Environmental Science and Chemistry students are curious, hardworking learners who are preparing for college-level coursework and careers in STEM fields. Every day, they tackle challenging concepts that require critical thinking, data analysis, and complex mathematical calculations. Unfortunately, not all students have access to reliable scientific calculators, creating an unnecessary barrier to their success.

Scientific calculators are essential tools in both AP Environmental Science and Chemistry.

Students use them to analyze environmental data, calculate population growth and energy use, solve chemical equations, work with scientific notation, determine pH values, and interpret laboratory results. These skills are not only necessary for classroom learning but are also critical for success on AP exams and future college courses.

Providing a classroom set of quality calculators will ensure that every student has equal access to the tools needed to participate fully in lessons, labs, and assessments. Instead of worrying about borrowing equipment or struggling with calculations, students will be able to focus on developing a deeper understanding of science and building confidence in their abilities.

Currently, we are using very old, left over calculators from our Math department. They are battery powered and die very quickly. We are spending a lot of money to replace the batteries for them to not last long.
