My Project

My third-grade students are imaginative learners who thrive on stories that spark curiosity and joy. I am requesting class sets of James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl to help my students develop strong reading skills while enjoying a magical and meaningful story.

This beloved novel tells the story of a young boy, James, who escapes a difficult life and goes on an incredible adventure inside a giant peach with a group of insect friends.

Through this journey, students explore important themes such as friendship, courage, imagination, and perseverance. As James builds relationships and overcomes challenges, students learn that kindness, teamwork, and bravery can help them succeed—even in difficult situations.

These books will be used for whole-class read-alouds, small group discussions, and interactive literacy activities. Students will practice key comprehension skills such as describing characters, identifying themes, and using text evidence to support their thinking. The rich language and vivid imagery in the story also help increase vocabulary and spark creativity.

Many of my students have limited access to books at home, so having their own copy of this novel ensures that every child can fully participate in reading and discussion. This shared experience builds confidence, strengthens literacy skills, and fosters a love of reading that will last beyond the classroom.
