Drawing Outside the Lines

Help me give my students a flexible and mobile art studio experience. These boards when paired with drawing benches allow for comfortable creation drawing/painting from life in class, around the building, and outdoors around campus.

My Project

These drawing boards will prove to be an essential everyday tool in my student's artistic journeys. They will provide a consistent stable drawing/painting surface modular enough to fit many different sections of our class. They will be used for everything from warmups, to dry and wet media projects. Their utilization will open up tremendous space around the room for daily activities.

These boards will most commonly be paired with atelier style drawing horses to provide a modular, mobile, and ergonomic seat/easel experience in their daily drawing life.

When students need to gather around a still life set in the room they will have the option to stay seated but move those benches, or stand with their drawing boards in hand for a more unique perspective. With such mobility also comes the option to travel to our subjects. We would have the ability to practice drawing the figure in motion by observing the gym classes from the bleachers. We could study landscapes by visiting the lawn outside the school. Students could collaborate with the younger students at our next door elementary school and practice portraiture by having a caricature day.

Access to mobile/flexible art materials provides our students with the option to learn by interacting with life outside the walls of the classroom and without being locked into the same seated position many find themselves occupying all day every day.
