My Project

Moving up to first grade this school year, I decided to start a classroom shop. The students had the opportunity to earn money throughout each day and on Friday they would have the opportunity to spend their money. The items in the shop are items that students would enjoy and look forward to purchasing which would encourage positive behaviors. Some of the items included are fun erasers and fun pencils, slap hands, bracelets, pencil grips and pencil toppers. Some of the items are fun items but other items are materials that are still fun but can be useful and used for working. Such as the pencils, pencil grips and erasers - which are all items we tend to run low on quickly but items the kids love when they have cute designs.

Not only will the money and shop be used as a classroom reward system but it is also aligned with our North Carolina money standard and help students to learn the fundamentals of money management.

The classroom shop will also encourage decision making skills (spending versus saving), responsibility as they have to track and manage their money, self-motivation to earn rewards, and support goal setting skills.

Many students, particularly younger students tend to thrive on positive feedback and positive reinforcements. Though the items may seem little, they are items the students get very excited for and will help encourage a positive learning environment.
