Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

All of the students I work with are considered nonverbal. This project is dedicated to providing these students with other ways to communicate with the world. One way I plan on doing that is by teaching them simple signs. I plan to pair pictures, objects, and words with signs. The ABC Alphabet ASL Sign Language Rug, the Gryphon House Simple Signing with Young Children, and ASL Flash Cards - 200 American Sign Language Flash Cards for Beginners will help me teach students signs in their environment.

Another way of communicating is with pictures.

The HP Smart Tank 5101 and Lettermark Multi-Purpose Copy Paper allow me to print visual schedules, token boards, activities, and communication boards in color to help keep students engaged in activities and whatever task they are working on.

In the project, there are also some math materials, like the Deke Home - Foam Dice Set (Pack of 4), the ASL Alphabet Number Line Set ABC Number 0-20, and the Kibbit Group It- Card Game for Improving Category Recognition. These items will allow learners to express their math skills.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
