My Project

My high school students are eager for books that reflect their cultures, interests, and languages, and this project will help expand our library’s Spanish-language and Latin American studies collection in meaningful ways. Students in Spanish classes will benefit from authentic language resources such as Conversational Spanish Dialogues, Spanish Short Stories for Beginners, Practice Makes Perfect: Spanish Vocabulary, and The Dual-Language Storybook. At the same time, bilingual and heritage speakers will gain access to literature and poetry that celebrates Spanish-language voices through works like Veinte poemas de amor y una canción desesperada by Pablo Neruda, Los detectives salvajes, and Don Quijote de la Mancha.

This project will strengthen our nonfiction and cultural history resources with titles such as History of Mexico, Spanish History, Art and Architecture in Mexico, and Mexican Painters: Rivera, Orozco, Siqueiros, and Other Artists of the Social Realist School.

These books will support classroom learning while encouraging students to explore the history, art, and cultural traditions of Spanish-speaking countries. High-interest and bilingual titles like Dragon Hoops, Brownstone, Su propio color, and Una larga travesía hasta el agua will help students build literacy skills and confidence while finding books they genuinely want to read. By expanding these resources, our library will become a more welcoming and inclusive place where students can see themselves represented and connect reading to language, identity, and culture.
