Lighting Up Little Minds: Sensory Play for Preschool Learners

Help me give my students sensory materials for them to enjoy in the sensory table and at the light table in our preschool classroom.

My Project

In our Head Start preschool classroom, our 3- and 4-year-old children learn best through hands-on exploration, movement, and sensory experiences. This project will provide a special sensory tray designed to fit on top of our classroom light table, along with a variety of engaging materials such as colorful beads, textured balls, translucent blocks, manipulatives, and other sensory items that children can touch, sort, stack, scoop, and explore.

The glowing light table transforms everyday sensory play into an exciting learning experience that encourages curiosity, creativity, and discovery.

Children will use these materials during independent exploration, small group activities, and guided learning experiences. The light table invites children to slow down, observe closely, ask questions, and engage their senses while building important early childhood skills.

Through sensory play, our preschoolers will strengthen fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, problem-solving abilities, language development, and social-emotional skills as they work together, share materials, and express their ideas. The calming sensory experience also supports self-regulation and focus, helping young learners feel successful and engaged in the classroom environment.

Your support will help create meaningful opportunities for our Head Start children to learn through play while fostering creativity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
