My Project

My name is Anna Merrill. I am a homebound teacher with students with disabilities. This is my passion and I want to continue to give my students my absolute best through use of hands on materials in ensuring that I meet their individualized needs to further progress on goals.

I have students who are non-verbal, visually impaired and with whom have physical challenges, however that doesn’t stop them from engaging in learning when provided with the proper supports for learning and a teacher who believes in them.

As a teacher, I do this with activities that are hands on and adapted to what they need to help them learn how is best for them. I need help in securing materials that provide my student’s with those proper supports. It takes a lot of hands on materials that are adaptable and can be used for literacy, math, communication and sensory. The students really benefit from these adapted materials. We also complete hands on crafts that are thematic and go with the book and literacy activities, therefore having more art materials would help this need for the remainder of this year and into the next school year as I plan ahead for my student’s.

These needs also include an instant camera that is able to print pictures that can be used to make books for literacy and communication. As a teacher, my students have sensory needs and the tactile materials will benefit them. I also have students that use light boxes for their visual needs and the alphabet, number and thematic magnatiles will help them to learn literacy, math and communication skills in a fun and engaging way that they can touch and see.
