This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My 33-student fifth grade public school class will be working on spelling and vocabulary on a daily basis. They are essential elements of the Literacy curriculum. Vocabulary acquisition can be fun, especially if the students are rewarded with word games. When I was a child, my family engaged in Scrabble games several times a week. We are all excellent readers. I believe that, likewise, this game can help my students acquire essential words they encounter within the curriculum, and to explore new words while having fun. It also helps to build community!
The six games I am asking for will be used at least once a week as a culminating project to our vocabulary endeavors, and to provide differentiated instruction. Students will further use the words they construct in writing assignments such as memoirs, persuasive essays, and other creative projects.
