Swinging Into a New Year

My Project

For the 2026-2027 school year I am moving into a new classroom and what comes with that new classroom.....a swing hook!

I am so excited that a swing hook will be available for us to use on a daily basis.

The swings that we had were too old and would not hold the weight of a toddler, let alone a full-grown 5th grader. So, we are now looking at getting a couple different types of swings for the students to use as well as a mat to push under them to keep them safe when getting in or out of the swing.

The looser swing is for students to sit in that need a "sensory hug". When their weight is put in it, they will feel the material wrap around them, providing a warm, comforting compression they are seeking to help settle their systems.

The platform swing is a wonderful way to help students with their writing. They lay on it on their stomachs and are able to put their writing on the floor, helping them focus more on the strength in their hand versus their arm.

Both can be used for breaks, for work, for relaxation or for reward. They will be available, not just for students who are identified but for any student (or adult) who may just need a moment. Tools for my room are tools for anyone. Everyone has sensory needs and I want my room to be the safe place those needs can be met.
