My Students

Do you remember how important it was to have a sharpened pencil when you were in school? Well, 2nd graders in my school LOVE it too. The problem is that when you sharpen them everyday times 20 students..it wears the sharpener down. Also to be a "scientist", it helps when they have tools to use.

We are a 2nd grade classroom in a small country town in Texas.

We have a variety of students where some students live on farms, and others live with multiple families. We are a lower income school, so any exciting events or activities are new to some students. We love to do fun lessons! We work very hard in our classroom to help prepare us for the state tests in the future grades and intrigued by new learning experiences.

My Project

I am really hoping to incorporate more hands-on science experiments next year to help the students become better "scientists". It will help to have hand lenses to examine the materials with a closer look. The pencil sharpener will be very helpful so that they will be able to write with sharpened pencils instead of pencils with just one side sharpened or pencils where the sharpener has "eaten" half of the pencil. The easel will be helpful during carpet time, so the students will have a chance to see the skills we are working on without having to sit in their chair all day.

These three items will be very meaningful and helpful to our classroom.

They are items that will be used and appreciated on a daily basis. It will also help us learn how grateful we are for donations to help our learning experiences.
