Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am second grade teacher who loves to expose students to different cultures. I teach for a district that is primarily composed of African Americans and Hispanics. Unfortunately, some of my students are often not exposed to other cultures; therefore, I've brought culture and traditions to them! You might wonder how can I do this. Well it's simple, I use my experiences, pictures, videos, but most importantly I use books!
Have you ever heard the phrase, "Books can take you anywhere"? I use books to bring stories to life. However, in the era of technology that we live in, children's imaginations are being swept away. Nowadays, children have to see, smell, and touch in order to believe.
This is why I'm asking for your help. I would love it if you could donate a set of books, videos, calligraphy set, and Chinese props to complete a Chinese cultural project. We will use the videos to travel visually, the books to travel using our imagination, a calligraphy set to practice writing Chinese scripts; and props to use for a Chinese play.
You see, at the end of the school year all of the second grade teachers get together and present a country. We are presenting China! We would love it if you could take us to China!
