My students need playground equipment to use at recess. They are in need of rubber balls, foam footballs, basketballs, & jump ropes. We will also need a bin for storage.

My Students

My All-Star 2nd grade students LOVE recess! Their favorite things to do are play kickball and four square, play basketball games, toss footballs, & jump rope. With 491 students at my school, there never seems to be enough equipment to go around at recess time.

My Washington State second graders are excited, active learners!

After being in the classroom working hard on their academic skills, they are eager to get outside to run, jump, and play! My school has sustained significant budget cuts over the past 2 years, yet our enrollment has dramatically increased by almost 100 students. Lots of children and not enough $$ means that the purchase of playground equipment is not a big priority. The majority of our students are free/reduced lunch, and they may not have access at their homes to places to play or equipment to play with. Their only exercise during the day happens at school.

My Project

I am requesting a variety of colorful playground equipment for my second graders to use. My students love to play kickball games and four square, so I am asking for rubber bouncy balls. They enjoy playing basketball games with their friends, so I am requesting a set of basketballs. They love to jump rope while singing jump rope chants, so I am asking for a set of jump ropes. They like to practice their throwing skills using footballs, so I am requesting a set of foam footballs. Finally, we need a place in our classroom to store this fantastic equipment, so I am asking for a storage bin.

My students will be able to practice the important social skills of cooperation and sharing by using this playground equipment with others.

They will learn responsibility by keeping track of the balls and jump ropes, and storing them in the bin when recess is over. They will get lots of exercise and physical activity by engaging in organized games using this equipment (rather than just sitting on the sidelines because there isn't enough equipment to go around)!
