This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help us develop our listening comprehension skills! The students in my class LOVE listening to adults read to them. Listening to stories helps students become engaged and also helps model fluency and expression.

My 26 students are on their way to becoming great readers.

The majority of my students are ESL students who do not always have someone at home to read to them or with them in English. Many of the strategies and skills we practice in the classroom are not always being reviewed at home. Despite these circumstances, my students are eager to learn and are making progress on a daily basis. They are beginning to notice their own progress and are so proud of themselves!

My Project

Our class just received a brand new listening center with a few books. I am requesting a new set of classic books on CD for my students to listen to during our Guided Reading and center time. During guided reading I am able to meet with small groups to focus on reading strategies. While I am meeting with the groups the other students are working in independent literacy centers. Giving my students new books will help them to enjoy reading while modeling fluency, expression as well as helping my ESL students with basic vocabulary.

My students are always excited to work at the listening center even with the limited sets of books on tape/cd we have.

I can just imagine the smile on their faces when they see that we have new books! Your donation will enable my students to listen to a variety of classic books and help them begin their life long journey of reading.
