A Chance To Succeed

My students need 30+ resources on various reading levels ranging from grades 3 through 8 to help ensure a successful school year.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are on the road often traveled. Most are struggling and are performing below grade level. Trying to read and comprehend the general education textbooks are difficult for them to interpret and above their grade level. They get frustrated and loses focus lacking the knowledge needed to pass state exam

They are students of various learning levels, styles and abilities in a self contained special education class who are eager to learn.

They attend a New York public school in a high needs district. Many come from a low socioeconomic background, some living in shelters. They receive free breakfast and lunch which for most are their only meals of the day. Many view school as a safe harbor and a place where they feel loved.

My Project

The resources chosen are designed for struggling students and those that are performing below grade level. They will enable each student to better comprehend across the curriculum what they are learning without getting frustrated while working on their level. One of the activities I will be able to do is incorporate the Smart board into lesson using various websites; Brain Pop to introduce such topics as: Main idea, summarizing, cause and effect. Discovery and National Geographic can be used for science, social studies and Scholastic for math. Group and independent activities will challenge students to think critically. Overall what they will learn is how to think critically, read fluently, be able to understand what they read and know fact from fiction in order to comprehend and make better decisions in their lives by knowing how to read what is in front of them.

This project is very important to my students, I want them to succeed to the best of their abilities on their level.

I don't want them to feel as though they are not good enough to make it. My desire is to instill a love of learning and reading, and for them to have the advantage of an excellent education despite their handicap and become a productive member of society, regardless of their socioeconomic status.
