My Students
All students deserve an equal chance at succeeding in school. This means that disabilities and learning the English language can become a large obstacle for students.
The students on my team are incredible.
They come from very diverse backgrounds: culture, language, religion, and race. One thing that all students enjoy is the option to use technology to complete projects and to continue their education. My students are growing up in a highly educated city that includes a very large, successful university that brings in students from around the world. To give my students the best opportunity of succeeding in life, they need to use as much technology as possible: for assessment, for collaboration, and for project based learning.
My Project
By supplying my students with noise canceling headsets, the options are limitless. Students can use computers with webcams to connect and collaborate with peers from another country. My students can create a yearlong video diary that will allow them to chart progress. My students can record before and after assessments and eliminate the language barrier for my English Language Learners. Students can use models to show learning without need to write, which can be stressful for students with writing and reading disabilities. These noise canceling headsets will also allow small groups of students to collaborate in a virtual environment that utilizes audio and video technology, which will allow students who are unable to be at school, due to illness to participate as well.
While most computers with webcams have microphones, the noise canceling headset is extremely important to eliminate noisy feedback that can make it hard to understand the sound.
Without these headsets, audio quality will be poor at best, and student frustration will curb the motivation to continue to use technology in fascinating ways.
