This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We must never forget the brutality humans are capable of visiting on each other. The Holocaust is an important event which belongs in every school child's curriculum. I want my students to be concerned about preserving human rights, and to prevent any future genocides.

I teach in a high needs school -- over 90% of the students should qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

We serve a diverse population consisting of many recent immigrants from all over the world. Our classrooms are a figurative United Nations, with my students as the ambassadors.

My Project

I'm working with an English Language Arts teacher to introduce an integrated unit on the holocaust. The book I'm requesting has the true stories of six holocaust survivors, as retold by the author. I'm particularly interested in this work because two of the people are my relatives. No person should leave school without learning about the holocaust. It will be especially relevant for some of my students coming from lands in conflict. This project is important for both the short and long-term impacts it could have in aiding understanding of genocide. Through knowledge I am seeking to prevent such events from ever happening again. There is real world focus, and the text will serve as a strong anchor.

If I am only for myself, what am I? It is of vital importance that today's students, both those from peaceful backgrounds and those from conflict areas, understand the history of the holocaust. Please help purchase these books, and the pens we also need.
